Actor, David Oyelowo Unveils Scholarship Program for Nigerian Girls.

British-Nigerian actor, David Oyelowo has officially unveiled a scholarship program for young Nigerian girls.
The scholarship tagged The David Oyelowo Leadership Scholarship for Girls will focus on sending ‘female victims of terror attacks and gender-based inequality’ to school.
Partnering with LA-based nonprofit organization, GEANCO, the Selma star told Huffington Post that he was inspired by Oprah Winfrey’s own scholarship program for South African girls.
In the course of the interview with Huffington Post, he mentioned the the abduction of the Chibok girls in 2014 was another motivator for him to start the scholarship program.

He said, ““For me, being of Nigerian descent myself, being a father to a daughter, I just feel so drawn to this particular group of girls in Nigeria who have been disenfranchised, who have been attacked, and having their very basic rights stolen from them.”
Furthermore he said, “So, forming this partnership to start this scholarship that is going to have actual direct impact to girls who have been displaced through these acts of terror, is something that was kind of a no brainer for me, because I’ve been looking for places to be effective rather than just be angry about some of the injustices that I see in the world.”

According to the newspaper, the David Oyelowo Leadership Scholarship for Girls kicked off in August 2015 and has since received support from The Oprah Winfrey Foundation, Participant Media and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon.

This year, 3 well-deserving girls will be making their way to the Anglican Girls Grammar School in Abuja on a full scholarship program courtesy of the David Oyelowo Leadership Scholarship for Girls.
