One person put it very succinctly: “Wait a damn minute Ricky from Ballers is Denzel Washington‘s son” – followed by a string of emoticons, with eyes full of hearts.

That’s right: Washington’s 31-year-old son, John David Washington, is one of the main characters (named Ricky Jerret) on HBO’s freshman comedy, which wrapped its first season in late August.

But because time has no meaning on the Internet, it looks like it’s taken everyone a little while to catch on as John David has quickly become the talk of Twitter and Instagram this week.
