Spending Less Time on Social Media in 2017 Could Help Lower Anxiety and Depression.

Spending less time on social media this year may help curb anxiety and depression. Last March, scientists found that using multiple social media platforms could be emotionally and mentally harmful to adults. A 2015 survey found that 65 percent of Americans use social media networks like Twitter, Facebook or Instagram several times a day.

The study's results were featured in "Computers in Human Behavior," an academic journal that examines the relationship between humans and computers. Research was conducted at the University of Pittsburgh Center for Research on Media, Technology and Health in 2014.

Scientists discovered an alarming trend -- people who reported using seven to 11 social media sites were more than three times as likely to experience depression and anxiety than those who used zero to two different platforms.

And millennials use more social media platforms than they realize.

Wrongly Jailed for 31 Years, Man Gets N23,000 Compensation.

An innocent man who spent almost his entire adult life in prison was given just £60 when he was finally released.

Lawrence McKinney, 60, was wrongfully convicted of rape and burglary in 1978 and sentenced to 115 years in prison.

However, DNA evidence examined in 2009 eventually ruled him out as a suspect – meaning that, after spending most of his life behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit, he was a free man.
After his release, McKinney was given a paltry $75 – around £60.
He could be eligible for up to $1m in compensation if a parole board hears his exoneration case – but this has been denied twice already.
McKinney, from Memphis in Tennessee, told CBS News: ‘I don’t have no life. All of my life was taken away.’

His lawyer Jack Lowery agrees, and says he deserves some compensation for being denied freedom for most of his life.
‘It is not justice for him not to receive compensation for being wrongfully imprisoned,’ he added.

In September, a parole board voted 7-0 to deny him an exoneration hearing. Now it’s up to Tennessee’s governor, Bill Haslam, to make a final decision.
‘There has been one mistake made that sent him to prison,’ Lowery added. ‘I trust that another is not made that does not allow him exoneration.’

10 Common Habits That Damage Your Kidneys.

Kidneys are an essential part of the body’s purification system.

For many reasons, it is imperative to take good care of the kidneys but several people are guilty of letting down this important organ.

Here are some of the common ways humans put their kidneys at risk.

Holding in urine

This might sound odd, but almost everyone does it. The urge often comes during a car ride, in the middle of a phone call, or when there isn’t a bathroom nearby.

Holding in urine on a regular basis increases pressure, which can lead to kidney failure and kidney stones. When nature calls, it’s best to listen.

Insufficient water intake

One of the important functions of the kidneys is to filter blood and get rid of toxins and waste materials that can harm the body.

When you don’t drink enough water, those toxins and waste materials start to accumulate, eventually causing severe damage.
